What We Are Made Of: The Details Behind Our Materials
100% Organic Cotton Leads the Change
In the ever-evolving world of fashion, traditional cotton farming faces two major issues: intensive water consumption and synthetic chemicals. These old-school practices drain water resources like there’s no tomorrow and turn fields into chemical wastelands, putting both the environment and farmers at risk.
Guess what? We’re not into that. Enter 100% organic cotton.
Once our raw cotton arrives in Portugal, the magic begins. Our trusted suppliers spin these fluffy raw cotton bales into yarn, laying the foundation for our revolutionary garments.
Next, the freshly spun yarn is knitted into fabric by another local supplier. This process ensures top-notch quality and efficiency, bringing us one step closer to the final product.
At our factory, precision is our middle name. Imagine laser-cutting machines working their magic like a ninja slicing through fabric, and our assembly line putting together garments with the finesse of a plastic surgeon. We're not just making clothes; we're creating pieces that fit like they were tailored just for you, with the attention to detail that would make even a perfectionist nod in approval.
Dyeing for us is a mix of art and science, and we're all about this cool technique called garment dyeing. Typically, garments are made from fabric that's already dyed a specific color. That fabric then gets cut and sewn into garments. But at Colorful Standard, we like to do things a bit differently. We start by sewing our garments from off-white fabric, almost like starting with a blank canvas. Then, based on demand, we dye them in vibrant colors.
We love garment dyeing because it gives each piece a super authentic look, making our garments more like siblings than twins. The dye collects differently on parts of the garment where the texture changes, like the collar or seams, sometimes giving these areas a cool, slightly faded vibe - and don’t worry, each item will still have a nice, even color.
Not only does garment dyeing create beautiful, vibrant colors, but it also helps us produce more responsibly. We use OEKO-TEX® certified dyes that are naturally vibrant and safe, keeping harmful chemicals out of the picture. By dyeing after sewing, we're reducing waste and overproduction, as every scrap of off-white fabric can be recycled back into the production loop. Plus, by dyeing and pre-washing after assembling the garments, we also ensure that our clothes keep their shape and size, wash after wash. This means our products maintain their fit and appearance over time, no laundry surprises.
Now, we do our best to make your garments last as long as possible, as longevity is a key ingredient of responsible garments. But we also need your help to make sure our garments last you a lifetime. When washing garment-dyed items, simply avoid using bleach and try not to hang them in direct sunlight to maintain their beautiful, one-of-a-kind color. This will help your unique pieces look awesome for years to come. Together we can contribute to a more responsible world with less waste and lower production needs.
As our cotton garments near the end of their journey, they receive their final touches at our factory in Portugal. Labels and hangtags are added with the precision of a maestro putting the final notes to a symphony, ensuring every piece is perfect.
Finally, our finished cotton garments are stored in our warehouse, ready to be shipped worldwide. From Portugal to every corner of the globe, we’re delivering responsible fashion that’s ready to take on the world.
Recycled Wool: Giving Waste a Second Life
In a world where waste runs out of hand and resources are dying down, a hero emerges: Recycled Wool! Our certified recycled wool is not just any wool—it's responsibly and ethically produced, with a mission to save the planet.
Our story starts in the picturesque landscapes of Italy, where wool scraps are given a second shot on life. These discarded pieces of wool are gathered, repurposed, and transformed into high-quality, eco-friendly yarn. It's like the Cinderella of the textile world, turning rags into riches and saving resources while reducing waste. We love hitting two goals with one shot!
Our recycled wool, now a pre-colored wonder, arrives at our partner's facility, where it is expertly knitted into garments that are not only super cozy but also champions of quality and eco-friendliness. This transformation proves that style and responsibility can go hand in hand. Since the yarn is already colored, we skip the dyeing drama, saving resources and minimizing waste from the start. After this magical transformation the wool garments go on a 10 minute ride to our factory for the final stages of production.
As our wool garments near the end of their epic adventure, they receive their final touches at our factory in Portugal. Labels and hangtags are added with the precision of a maestro adding the final notes to a symphony, ensuring every piece is perfect.
At last, our finished wool wonders arrive at their final resting place—the warehouse. But don't be fooled; this is not the end of their journey. From here, they are prepared to jump into action, ready to be shipped worldwide and join the wardrobes of eco-conscious fashion warriors everywhere.
